Coitt Kessler is a retired member of the Austin Fire Department and spent eight years as the Program Manager for AFD’s Robotic Emergency Deployment (RED) Team. He was most recently assigned to the Austin Fire Department Homeland Security and Special Operations Division. His accomplishments include being a founding member and Master Instructor for the IAFF's FireGround Survival Program, Chairperson for Local 975's IAFF Wellness Fitness Initiative Committee, and proudly serving for ten years in the US Military. Coitt is a contributing member of an advisory group for the National Institute of Standards and Technologies (NIST) on Standard Test Methods for Response Robots, a work group member for both DRONERESPONDERS and the Public Safety Aviation Accreditation Commission for training and accreditation (PSAAC), a contributor to the 2017 Congressional roadmap for unmanned systems, and represents AFD and the IAFF on NFPA’s 2400 Standard for Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) used for Public Safety Operations.
Coitt currently Chairs the IAFF’s / IAFC’s Robotics Workgroup which is made up of representatives from across North America. The mission of IAFF / IAFC Robotics Workgroup is to support Public Safety in program development, training, and best practices using robotics systems and advanced technology.
