Andrew Vita currently serves as the Assistant Chief of Operations in the City of Fairfax Fire Department in Fairfax, Virginia. In 2021 Chief Vita was credentialed by the Center for Public Safety Excellence as a Chief Fire Officer. He completed the Schar School of Policy and Government Virginia Certified Public Manager Program (2021), the University of South Florida Muma College of Business Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate (2021), the International Association of Fire Chief’s Fire Service Executive Development Institute Program (2020), and the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program (2017). Chief Vita’s professional memberships include the IAFC Health and Safety Committee, IAFC Volunteer and Combination Officer Sub-committee, NFPA 1710 Safe Staffing Committee, and International City/County Management Association. He serves as the President of both the City of Fairfax Firefighters Benevolent Fund, President of the Northern Virginia Leadership Development Institute Advisory Board, and Treasurer of the Foundation for First Responder Wellness and Resiliency Board. He began his fire service career in 1991 with the Fair Oaks Volunteer Fire Department in Fairfax, Virginia. Serving as a volunteer and studying between calls he completed his Bachelor of Science Degree in the Administration of Justice from George Mason University.
